About Us
The Subaru Western Triathlon Series is organized by a dedicated team of experienced event management specialists. In addition to the Series races, the event staff have organized a number of major triathlon events including National Championships, ITU races, and Pan Am and Commonwealth Games Qualifiers. The staff also includes international level athletes and coaches who have been involved with races around the world including Ironman races and Olympic Games.
The Series started in 2007 with three races on Vancouver Island the BC Lower Mainland. In 2008 one of the most popular races in Canada, the New Balance Half Iron Triathlon, was added to the lineup bringing the annual number of participants in the Series to over 2000. In 2010 Banff was added as the fifth race in this growing Series. With the early success of the Series, growth in the near future is a likely possibility.
Our Vision
The Vision of the Series is to offer a professional, safe, and world-class experience for the participant, sponsor, volunteer, and spectator – all in a race venue carefully selected to showcase the stunning beauty of the area. Each Series event is designed with multiple races and different distances so that athletes of all ages and abilities can be part of a great experience and accomplishment. The very nature of swimming, biking, and running encourages a healthy, active lifestyle that is environmentally friendly promoting “people powered” means of transportation. The events have a festival atmosphere and leave no impact on the race site, and in fact are often cleaner and greener after the site clean-up is complete.
