Today marked the 15th Anniversary of the New Balance Half Iron, a race with a rich history that has seen many of the sport's top athletes use this race as a spring board to Ironman victories around the world.  Participating in the race today or simply coming out to cheer were the likes of legends Lori Bowden, Tara Lee Marshall, and Melissa Spooner.

This Sunday marks the 15th running of the New Balance Half Iron and Sprint Triathlon where nearly 1000 athletes will take to the waters of Elk Lake, cycle through the scenic Saanich Peninsula, and run 2 loops of the beautiful 10k lakeside loop.

The 15th Annual New Balance Half Iron Triathlon will be held at Elk Lake on Sunday, June 20th. This event consists of a 1.9km swim in Elk Lake, 87km bike (2 laps) through the roads of Saanich, Central Saanich and North Saanich followed by a 20km run (2 laps) around Elk and Beaver Lakes.  This event has been the Provincial Championships eight times and National Championships twice while attracting a truly international field.  With 1000 competitors and 200 volunteers from all over North America this is one of the Peninsula's largest annual sporting events.  200 participants will be completed the Sprint Distance which includes a 500m Swim, 20km Bike and 5km Run.
