Bike Course
Single Lane Along Spanish Banks:
- Please note that when you are leaving the transition area on the bike and heading to Northwest Marine Drive, you will be channelled in to the west-bound lane.
- The east bound lane (along the ocean and parking lot side) will be used for one-way piloted traffic.
- There will most likely not be two-way bike traffic in the biking single lane at any time, but there is a possibility that the fastest Olympic athletes on their way back to transition could meet the slowest Sprint athletes heading out - if you think this may be relevant to you, please be aware that there may be oncoming bikers sharing the single lane.
- It is important that all participants stay to the right side of the single lane at all times.
Turn Arounds on the Bike:
- There are 2 different turn around points on SW Marine Drive.
- The turn-around for the Sprint and Olympic distances is at Old Marine Drive.
- Half Iron participants will travel further to the traditional turn-around (at Kullahun Drive).
- Both turns will be well marked but it is your responsibility to be sure you are turning at the right point.
- The turn around at the bottom of the hill on NW Marine Drive is the same for all participants (Sprint participants will not turn here but carry on straight to the finish as will any participant that has completed the appropriate number of loops.
- Be very careful here as athletes that are heading out on to their first loop will be merging with athletes who are looping.
General:
- It is your responsibility to count your laps on the bike course.
- 1 aid station per loop is available with water, Gatorade and Power Gels.
- All Half participants must finish the bike before the race clock time of 5:15.
- All Olympic participants must finish the bike before the race clock time of 3:15.
- There will be no set set cut-off times in the Sprint Distance, however, discretional cut-offs may be implemented by the Race Director.
